The 2005 IndyCar and Champ car series combined for 30 races. It started March 6th with IndyCar at Homestead-Miami Speedway, and ended November 6th with the Champ Car series at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez circuit in Mexico City. 2005 marked the first year that IRL ran on Road Courses. When the Indy Racing League formed in 1996, and up until 2004 it was an Oval Series only.
